VERSÃO EM PORTUGUÊS

CGI.br and NIC.br express their condolences for the passing of Nigel Hickson this past weekend. Senior Advisor for Internet Governance at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology of the UK government, Nigel was also a historic partner of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) in various moments and initiatives.

Nigel had a remarkable career in Internet Governance, with significant contributions in all its major forums and a presence that was as notable as it was cheerful, always enthusiastic. A tireless advocate for the multistakeholder model of Internet Governance, which he embodied through his constant, frank, friendly, and constructive dialogue with actors from all stakeholder groups, he was also present and actively participated in the ICANN82 meeting held in Seattle just three weeks ago.

In addition to representing the UK government in Internet governance forums and in the ICANN Governmental Advisory Committee, Nigel previously had been part of the ICANN Senior Staff, where he served as Vice President for Europe and also Vice President of UN and IGO Engagement. For many years, he was a member of the executive committee and treasurer of the IGFSA (Internet Governance Forum Support Association), demonstrating his tireless support for strengthening the IGF and national and regional Internet governance forums.

Not only for his professional achievements but also for his great personal qualities, Nigel will be deeply missed and will remain in the hearts and memories of the entire community.

To his family and friends, our sincerest condolences.
